China is the host country for the annual event in celebration of the 48th World Environment Day on June 5, 2019. In order to put into practice Xi Jinping's thinking on promoting ecological progress and the principles from the national conference on ecological and environmental protection, further enhance the public's consiousness of ecological and environmental protection, mobilize the whole society to actively participate in developing eco-civilization, take practical actions to reduce resource consumption and pollution emissions, consciously practice green production and lifestyle, and build a beautiful China together, Shandong Society for Environmental Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "SSES") and "Green Travel in Shandong", University Alliance Branch of SSES organized the Shandong Colleges of Environment (departments and institutes) to jointly carry out the science popularization event.

This Event received positive responses from 18 universities, including Shandong University, Ocean University of China, China University of Petroleum, Shandong Jianzhu University, Shandong Normal University, Shandong Agricultural University, Shandong University of Science and Technology, Shandong University of Technology, Qilu University of Technology, University of Jinan, Qingdao University, Qingdao University of Science & Technology, Liaocheng University, Linyi University, Binzhou University, Dezhou University, Qingdao Agricultural University, Shandong First Medical University. From May 25th to June 13th, colleges and universities carried out environmental popularization activities of different scales and characteristics with their actual conditions. These activities promoted green ideas and environmental protection knowledge and took actions to drive others and practice green living by environmental theme lectures, environmental handicraft exhibitions, environmental knowledge competitions, environmental protection debates, promotional videos, hand-painted exhibition boards and green travel, environmental protection evening shows, creative fashion shows, banner signing, etc. This joint event widely popularized the common sense of life and popular science knowledge in water-saving, electricity-saving, green office, green travel, green consumption, garbage classification, biodiversity protection, and residents' environment and health literacy, etc. It set off a great wave of environmental popularization in the province, created a good atmosphere for the entire society to participate in the construction of ecological civilization, and further raised the awareness of the general public to participate in environmental protection.

A large number of advanced collectives and individuals emerged during this event. Recommended by universities and selected by SSES, the honorary title of "Excellent Organization Unit for Science Popularization Linkage Event of 2019 "6•5" World Environment Day 2019 with Shandong Colleges of Environment (Departments and Institutes)" was awarded to 18 units, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shandong University; Environmental Science and Engineering, Ocean University of China, and so on. The honorary title of "Excellent Instructor" was awarded to 38 teachers, Guo Meng, China University of Petroleum, Xunfen, Shandong Jianzhu University, and so on. The honorary title of "Excellent Volunteer" was awarded to 78 classmates, Gai Wenhao, Qilu University of Technology, Yan Zilin, University of Jinan, and so on.
